Finally let's add the angler and re-cap. Stand within your circle, picture your no 7, then take the rod tip up the leg of the 7 and stop as explained in step 2. Once the line has fully unrolled behind deliver the forward cast across the top of the 7, again as explained in step 2. Then after the forward stop, lower the rod tip so that the fly line, leader and fly all land together on the water for a good presentation. You can practice drawing the no 7 with your thumb, but when you do so make sure that your thumb travels in the direction of the arrows in the diagram, because the fly line will follow the rod tip, and if your thumb travels in an arc, therefore so will the rod tip and inevitably the line will follow, causing your cast to be inefficient. < Back
