The River Eden is a Prolific Salmon river, and one that is very often overlooked by anglers travelling to some of those better documented Salmon rivers of Scotland.
There are fish in the system all year round, many running into double figures, and stocks of Spring fish, or early running fish, are certainly on the increase, allowing anglers to indulge in their favourite pass time in the knowledge that catching a few of these magnificent specimens is a distinct possibility.
Fly fishing is a very popular method and it takes its fair share of fish throughout the season on a variety of river levels and conditions.
Salmon fishing on the Eden is very popular so it is advisable to make your booking well in advance.

The Grayling found on the River Eden are both widespread and in many instances of very high quality, with fish regularly taken over the 2lb mark on the fly rod.
This type of fly fishing is growing in popularity, one of the main reasons for this is the fact that it extends the fly fisherman's season throughout the Winter months, thus offering no reason whatsoever to pack away your fly rod until the trout season arrives once again.
A variety of successful techniques used on the river include, Czech nymphing, Spider fishing, and Dry fly. The latter often attributed to the higher temperatures we are now accustomed to later in the year, and Grayling do visit the surface from time to time offering up great sport.

Brown trout need no introduction to the regular angler, and the River Eden holds an abundance of these Wild creatures throughout the system, offering great opportunities to both the experienced angler and the beginner alike.
Brown trout can be caught readily throughout the season, but early season does throw up some quality fish as these Wild fish re-appear from the rigors of winter spawning, often with a "lets eat everything" attitude.
Like many other rivers, Sea Trout have declined on the Eden over recent years, although there are still areas where a little intensive night fishing can throw up some good sport in the Summer months. The Sea Trout season runs from April 1st - September 30th.

Onyer Marks are a fleet of three charter boats that provide both bait fishing and fly fishing for several species. These charter boats are owned by Ian Burrett who is very much into the conservation of all species and promotes the return of fish, but don't let this put you off, especially if you are a keen fly fisher, as the Pollock fishing on the fly can be very exciting.
